Building Bridges through Football

Berks & Bucks FA and Slough Police Unite for Youth Engagement

In an inspiring effort to foster stronger relationships between young people and local law enforcement, Berks & Bucks FA collaborated with the Slough Police to deliver a unique football session for students from Lynchill Academy. The session showcased the unifying power of sport as young people, police officers, and coaches came together to engage through sport.

The aim of the initiative was to create cohesion between the police and young people in Slough. By using football as a shared platform, the session sought to break down barriers, build mutual understanding, and promote a sense of community.

Callum Salhotra, Community & Inclusion Manager at Berks & Bucks FA, highlighted the importance of initiatives like this in fostering community connections. “Football has an incredible ability to bring people together,” he said. “By creating opportunities like this, we’re not just teaching young people about teamwork and respect on the pitch—we’re also helping to build trust and positive relationships off it. This session with the Slough Police is a brilliant example of how sport can drive meaningful change in our communities.”

The session featured a mix of fun drills, skill challenges, and friendly matches, all designed to encourage interaction and teamwork. Officers from the Slough Police actively participated, showcasing their skills and engaging with the students in a relaxed and friendly environment.

PCSO Danyal Ghazi, emphasized the value of community-focused initiatives in modern policing. “Building trust with young people is essential,” he explained. “Through activities like this, we’re able to show that we’re here to support and work with them, not just enforce rules. Football provides a fantastic way to connect, communicate, and break down preconceived notions on both sides.”

The response from the students of Lynchill Academy was overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed how much they enjoyed the opportunity to interact with the police.
